Probleemstelling: Er komt veel af op de pas gestarte verpleegkundigen, die de transitie van opleiding naar werkveld maken. De zorgsector is continu in verandering en de verwachtingen van collega-verpleegkundigen liggen hoog. De kans op een reality-shock is reëel wanneer er niet genoeg tijd aangeboden wordt om zich aan te passen en als de verwachtingen niet afgestemd zijn op elkaar. Methode: Een literatuurstudie en empirisch onderzoek aan de hand van een enquête.Resultaten: Uit het empirisch onderzoek komt naar voor dat 55% verkeerde verwachtingen heeft van het werkveld. De ondervraagden gaven aan geen zes maand in te lopen (48%), zich onzeker te voelen (56%) en veel stress te ervaren (74%). Conclusie: Ondanks dat de stages vanuit de opleiding bijdragen tot een betere kijk op het werkveld, blijven de verwachtingen van de pas gestarte verpleegkundige vaak niet reëel. Doorheen de stages groeit de zelfzekerheid, maar over het effectief uitoefenen van het beroep heerst er nog onzekerheid en komt stress naar voor. Ondersteuning en inloopperiode kunnen hierop een invloed hebben.
